不定式和不定式短语作目的状语

1. 位置的不同

(not) to do

in order (not) to do

so as (not) to do 只能位于句尾

We study hard to/in order to/so as to make progress.

=To /In order to make progress, we study hard.

I have written it down in order not to forget./so as not to forget.

2. 不定式与目的状语从句的转换

They started early in order to/so as to get there in time.

=They started early in order that/so that they could get there in time.

=In order that they could get there in time, they started early.

      in order that, so that 都可以引导目的状语从句，in order that 既可以放句首，也可以放句末，而so that 只能放在句末。
