一  不定冠词a, an用法

1.不定冠词a(n)表示“某一个”，相当于some，意为“一个”。

—Could you tell me the way to the Johnsons'.please?请告诉我去约翰逊家怎么走，可以吗？

—Sorry,we don't have a Johnson here in the village.对不起，我们这个村庄里没有一个叫约翰逊的人.

2.不定冠词a(n)用于抽象名词前，意为“一种……的人或事”。

He suddenly appeared on a rainy night,which was a great surprise to us.他在一个雨夜突然出现，这使我们非常吃惊。

3.不定冠词a(n)用于有形容词修饰的不可数名词前。

The walk is expected to last all day,so bring a packed lunch.这段路程预计要走一整天，所以应该带一份盒装午饭。

4.不定冠词a（n）用于有形容词修饰的季节、日期前。

We had a very cold winter last year.去年我们度过了一个非常寒冷的冬天。

5.“a（n)十序数词”不表示排序，表示“又一、再一”。 

In order to find a better job,he decided to study a second foreign language.为了找到一份更好的工作，他决定再学习一门外语。

6.用于固定搭配中，

如：as a matter of fact,in a hurry,in a word,have a(n)...knowledge of,have a(n)...understanding of,

a waste of,a variety of,quite a few,in a way,all of a sudden等。

It is a waste of money to buy that expensive car.买那么贵的汽车是浪费金钱。

二、a与an的用法区别 

a用于以辅音音素开头的单词或字母前；an用于以元音音素开头的单词或字母前，一般来说，元音字母发元音，辅音字母发辅音。但请注意以下三点：

1.hour，honest，honor等单词的拼写虽以辅音字母h开头，但其读音却以元音音素开头，因此，前面要用an。

2.useful,university,usual, united, European,one-eyed,one-way等单词的拼写虽然以元音字母开头，但其读音却以辅音音素开头，因此，前面要用a。

3.英文字母前用a还是用an的问题：在26个英文字母中，a，e，f，h，i，l，m，n，o，r，s，x12个字母的读音是以元音音素开头的，其余字母的读音则是以辅音音素开头的。

三、不定冠词的位置

冠词一般放在名词之前，名词之前若有形容词，冠词放在形容词之前。下列情况例外：

1.不定冠词遇到副词(as，how，however，so，too等)时加在形容词之后，

He is as good a soldier as he was.他和以前一样是一个好士兵。

2.不定冠词置于such,what,many,not,much of等之后。

She is such a good friend.她是如此好的一个朋友。

3.不定冠词常用于quite和rather之后，但如果rather后另有形容词修饰时，不定冠词既可放在副词之前，也可放在副词之后。

It was quite/rather a cold day.

=It was a rather cold day.那天相当冷。

4.当名词前的比较级被no,all,far,much等修饰时，不定冠词也要后置。

He is no less a man than the President.他不亚于总统。

5.如果名词被副词hardly,scarcely,barely,exactly和一个形容词共同修饰时，不定冠词要放在上述副词之后、形容词之前。

This is hardly a right thing to do.这不是一件正确的事。

7.an 此处修饰lesson，表示人或事物的某一类，又因为impressive的发音是以元音音素开头的，所以应该用an。
